|
Several questions arising from our second game -
1. In terrain placement does the defender place all their pieces first, followed by attackers pieces, or it alternate one piece at a time? (Page 67, pacing terrain, 6th bullet)
2. We had a group charge LI in the open with a wheel at the start of the charge. Is the maximum wheel determined by when the chargers contact the start position of the LI, or can they continue wheeling past this point.
3. Page 34, Movements allowed in a ZOC.
a. What does 'align' mean? Is it to be parallel with the enemy or positioned within the tramlines of the enemy side edges?
b. A unit is parallel to the enemy with part of the front edge in the ZOC but most not. If it does a quarter turn and wheels towards the enemy we assumed the front edge turns 90 degrees, therefore unless its a 90 degree wheel part of the front edge finishes further away from the enemy than at the start, so the manouver can't be done.
4. Page 54, Unable to conform.
a. If unable to conform do you conform as much as possible, or not at all?
b. If the charger is unable to conform can another unit move next to the charger to count as support even though its not in corner contact with the enemy?
Thanks in advance for the help. Both games played have been very enjoyable.

1- yes including mandatory terrain
2- distance of charge is mesured from both starting position, including any wheel or 90° or 180 ° turn
3a- gaining a parallel position
3b- any move must end closer to the ennemy, your interpretation seems good
4a-you conform as much as possible
4b- yes _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

Thanks for the answers. But on this one can the charger specify a charge direction requiring a wheel past the point of contact with the LI? |

Sorry, but "Yes" for question 1 is not appropriate because it was a eiter or question. Don`t get me wrong...
We did it like that, first defender places the mandatory terrain, after that we alternete placing terrain beginning with the defender. |

3a- gaining a parallel position
|
This point is seemingly contradicted by another person in my post about double wheel in a ZOC. If parallel is all that is required, then I could wheel to a point past a side edge to ZOC a 2nd unit. |

Alan the way the rules are written I think you cannot wheel past the point of contact. You need to be able to have charge that contacts. So you need to declare that angle then that is set. So the ability to inhibit a wheel is here. I looked for the same thing ala FOG. |

Okay, I'll have a go!
AlanCutner a écrit: | 1. In terrain placement does the defender place all their pieces first, followed by attackers pieces, or it alternate one piece at a time? (Page 67, pacing terrain, 6th bullet) |
1. The defender places all his remaining terrain except roads, before the attacker places all his - i.e. it is not done alternately.
AlanCutner a écrit: | 2. We had a group charge LI in the open with a wheel at the start of the charge. Is the maximum wheel determined by when the chargers contact the start position of the LI, or can they continue wheeling past this point. |
2. The exact path the charge will take must be specified before the charge and any evades take place. Therefore the wheel must stop at the position occupied by the LI.
AlanCutner a écrit: | 3. Page 34, Movements allowed in a ZOC.
a. What does 'align' mean? Is it to be parallel with the enemy or positioned within the tramlines of the enemy side edges? |
3a. "Align" means move to be parallel to. N.B. a unit cannot slide in a ZoC except as part of a confirmation. It is important to remember that any movement in a ZoC must be in respect of aligning, moving towards or charging the most threatening enemy.
AlanCutner a écrit: | b. |
3b. In a ZoC no point on the front edge of a unit can move further from the enemy than at the beginning of the move.
AlanCutner a écrit: | 4. Page 54, Unable to conform.
a. If unable to conform do you conform as much as possible, or not at all? |
4a. If it is a contact with the front of an enemy unit then the unit conforms as much as possible. If it is a contact with the flank or rear of an enemy then the unit must be able to fully conform, otherwise the move is not allowed.
AlanCutner a écrit: | b. If the charger is unable to conform can another unit move next to the charger to count as support even though its not in corner contact with the enemy? |
4b. If a unit is unable to conform, but the contact is legal, a friendly unit that would have been able to give support if the conformation had been possible, can give support even though not in corner to corner contact with the enemy. See the second bullet point in Support, p50. |
