I think I have this clear, but want to check
L1L2L3
A1A2
A1 and A2 are LH and charge L1 2 and 3 also LH.
L123 evade but are caught.
So clearly the melee is A1 vs L1 and A2 vs L2
1) In the initial melee L3 which is facing away from A2 does not provide a support.
2) after melee the evading LH conform by turning around to face their attackers.
The question is does L3 get a free conform turn around at the end of the melee phase? I think the answer is yes since it is in corner to corner contact |

Does it matter?
It will be L3's turn next and the element should be able to turn (for free) to support L2 prior to the next melee phase. |

Well that is what I was verifying. Any unit in contact even in corner to corner can conform to combat for free. along with group it is part of.
So L3 can turn without a CP for free.
This also means a base in corner to corner can conform for free without a CP. Say it was supporting a unit that routed. In its next turn it can conform over without a CP but does not count as a charge. Correct? |

Sorry I don't agree.
conforming after a melee (p.65) applies to "units front corner against front corner or side by side". L3 is not: not in a melee, not caugh by rear.
So, no free conformation, but a move (a turn) wich costs 1 PC |

I agree with my friend JLouis. There are three situations that allow a unit to conform; when the unit charges (p52-53), when a unit is attacked in the flank or rear (p54) or when a unit finds itself in contact with an enemy that is not in melee (p55). Since none of these apply, there is no free conformation.
But I have to disagree with another of my friends Belinconnux, because while the initial or final half-turn or quarter-turn of light troops is free in terms of movement distance, it is not free in terms of command points. |
