A swordsman with a two-handed cutting weapon but without armour fights an armoured spearman. They both roll 4.
What happens?

I am coming to feel that the result is a draw.
However, that section says that in the special case of a draw v spear or pike the 2HCW win the melee. Earlier in the paragraph it says if you win the melee you add 1 to the dice roll. When I read this first I thought this would be cumulative. Ie that the 2HCW would win the melee (ie, in effect their score would increase to 5). Then they would add the normal plus 1 that 2HCW get against any opponents they beat, bringing them up to 6. The spearman's armour would take this down to 5, leaving the 2HCW one ahead.
So far nobody has read it that way, so I guess it should be a draw. |
