Hi
Could you explain how this works, please? Some parts of the Evade Move sequence (pp.37-39) don't seem to fit. Specifically:
1) At what point is the facing of the fleeing unit adjusted to be perpendicular to the entry edge?
2) Is this change in facing free (as per #2, p.38) or does it reduce movement (as per #4, p.39)?

1) Any unit within 4 UD of any edge point where a flank march unit is entering has to make an evade move perpendicularly to the table edge, even if this unit is not likely capable to evade ( it is disordering the unit)(p 73 para1 and 1st bullet)
2) it is an evade move, le 90 or 180 turn is free (iaw p38 para2) _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

Thank you, so far so good, but.. What if the front edge of the fleeing unit is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the edge of arrival?
Say a group or unit is facing the edge of arrival at 30'. It has to turn 180', which is free. To flee perpendicularly, it then has to wheel 30'. Is this wheel also free? If it were voluntary, under #4 (p.39), it wouldn't be, but in this case, when it's compulsory?
Also, the reverse: If a group or unit is facing away from the edge of arrival at 30'. It won't have to turn 90' or 180', but it will have to wheel 30' to be perpendicular. Is this compulsory wheel free, or is it subtracted from available movement.
Regards, Roger
Ps; don't know where the smiley in my previous post came from. |

This flee is considered as an evade move. So you consider the "potential" contact from the flank march entering units. If this contact is to be made in the front, it is an 180` turn, then orientation in charge direction (deduction) and move. If the "contact" is to be made in the flank, it is a 90` turn and same move. And , at least, a rear contact, it is only an orientation in same direction and move.
The initial turn is free but the re-orientation is counted in the move.
