Hello
Just wondering how many turns people typically get through in a three hour evening game. My usual opponent and myself manage about four. I'm thinking we're possibly too slow. One result of our inertia is that infantry armies struggle to catch up with cavalry armies that can evade out of the way. This was an irritation with DBMM and FOG so I'm hoping its fault in being to slow rather than with the rules themselves. What do you think? |

That is a pretty slow pace and no matter the army type you would struggle to finish games. In three hours you should easily complete 8-10 turns. We regularly have an army broken in 2-2.5 hours. |

I believe that there are now around 40 battle reports from various competitions on my website, and as far as I can remember maybe only one of those games didn't end in a victory for one side or the other - even the doubles with 400 points on table.
The singles are all played as 2.5 hour games, so 2.5 should be more than enough time. Quite how many rounds that is I'm not sure, but a lot more than 4 otherwise I'd certainly not have so many photos !! _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

I just summed up all my games in my blog, and the numbers are:
Games, 29.
Wins by Breakpoint 25
End turn 6.2.
Shortest games were 4 turns, 2 games ran longer than 10 turns. _________________ Phil

In the US tournaments at 2.5 hours 88% of the games have packed up with a winner and loser.
In France they insist on a 7 turn minimum and that probably has about 65-75% of their games having a winner and loser by then.
So to be polite, yea you are engaging in a fun social game and not playing "at normal" speed. |

About the 7 turns in France :
The princip is that for 200 points games are 2.5 hours long.
And only if there's no winner after this time (not very often), and less than 7 turns played, then both the games have to play fast (blitz) until 7 turns have been played. |

Yesterday during a turnament with 22 players, only seven games (on 55) finished without winner in 2.5 hour
In the famous ballainvilliers tournament in france with usulaly around 40 player there only one or two blitz per turn. usualy it's alway the same players. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"
