hello - just getting into the rules and recently joined the forum.
Does it make much difference if HI/MI infantry bases are only one DBx base rather than 2 apart from the look of the game. I guess they will leave terrain quicker and may be slightly further away for attacks in the rear.
Thanks

When the rule was written, one of the pre-requisties was to keep the most standard base size. That mean, for 15mm, 4cm widht and a variable depth, already common for DBA,DBM,DBMM, FOG. Consequence, one heavy infantry base is usually 40mm x 30mm (2 ranks of 15mm) with 8 figs in close order. This avoid confusion with MI on 40mm x 40mm with only 6 figs in loose order. _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

so if you only have one base then put them on a sabot. They do need the deeper base for it makes it easier to get behind them and them to get behind you. It also looks better. |

This has had me confused for a while. In the rule book chart on page 7, it provides the dimensions for bases according to scale. So for Heavy Infantry at 15mm scale the base is listed as 40mm X 15mm and Medium Infantry are on 40mm X 20mm on the chart while specifically Pikemen are on bases 40mm X 40mm according to the text on page 8.
However, if you look at the comparisons illustrated on page 8, and take the single Pike stand as the standard against which to measure; then MI are actually on 40mm X 30mm and HI are on 40mm X 20mm. This is a tight fit for HI, but almost doable. Now you are saying that HI should be 30mm depth and MI at 40mm?
Does not seem to match the illustrations.
The chart seems to be way out and impractical, unless (as you have implied) the depth relates to each RANK of miniatures. In that case, your depth of 30mm and 40mm respectively is correct, and the text regarding Pikemen is indicating a compromise by having them on a single 40 X 40 as opposed to what should be 40mm X 35mm.
Is that correct?
I would like to know, because trying to jam 8 Hoplites on a 40mm X 20mm stand was a pain in the derrière! |

Yes.
Minor typo on your part. 3 pike would 45mm deep not 35mm. But you've got this. |
