I am sorry if these questions have been asked before, but I can't see a posting if they have.

P67 Placing terrain.

'A player cannot choose more than two identical terrain elements.'

If 'Plain' has been chosen for the game, can a defender have three fields, one compulsory and two they choose?

Placing a river or coastal zone.
'If the defender has not successfully selected a river or coastal zone, the attacker can try to select one or the other.'

This implies that an attacker can only attempt to select a river or coastal zone if the defender has tried and failed. Is this what was intended?

If the Defender chooses coast (or river) and gets it the attacker cannot choose either piece.
If the Defender chooses river or coast and fails to get the piece (or does not attempt to get either piece), the attacker can attempt to get one of these two pieces.

The attacker can pick water feature regardless of defenders failure to get it Or failure to pick it in the first place.
Implication is that defenders failure does not mean total failure for both players.
