Hi

We had the situation where some infantry wished to charge enemy infantry (they were in range) who were behind an enemy Lt horse screen. The rational being that if they charged the Lt H which would evade they, the charges, may, on bad dice, not reach the enemy.

We played it that they must declare the charge on the Lt H and take the chance but could not really fine a reference.

You did right!
No need reference, the target is the LH. And if this unit evades, then you can contact the unit behind if you have enought mouvement.

Precision: If after the LH evade move, there is a valid target in the charge path (at normal move range) , there is no variable move (Ref P40 para 7)
However, in the case of an enemy unit above normal move, as LH evade, all target evade so a variable move is done who may conduct the charging unit to exceed its normal move range by 1 UD and contact the enemy.
