There's an upcoming tournament that's unfortunately decided to restrict their options to Romans and their enemies (unfortunate becuase of the painted/owned armies I've got, none qualify!) I do, however, have the better part of an EIR force bagged up in storage, so I thought it might be a good time to get the historical equivalent of Space Marines off the bucket list.
Here's the list I have in mind:
CinC - Ordinary
-Hvy Swordsmen Armor Impact x6
-Light Inf Sling x2
SubG - Ordinary
-Mdm Swordsmen Impact x5
-Light Inf Sling x2
SubG - Competant
-Hvy Cav Impact x2
-Heavy Cav Elite x2
-Medium Cav x2
-Light Cav Javelin x2
It's kind of boring, but it cover the bases with an open ground infantry command, a rough ground infantry command, and a mobile command.
Any thoughts? Another list I had dropped a Legionnaires stand to make the rest of them elite. |

Not enough command...
with only +1 of initiative, you risk being in defense or forced to attack in opponent's favorite terrain...
you will not make third moves with your troops, and no subtle manoeuver (poor command) and once the fight is engaged, your troops will not rally...
a big advantage will be: brilliant (+6 pts) with the HI, brilliant (+6 pts) with the MI and ordinary with the Cav (-3 pts). To get this 9 extra points, give up one middle cav and turn the other in LH.
you will be at +3 initiative, and still with 22 units (23 with the mandatory fortified camp) _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

So this makes your army very hamstring.
I think you want fewer mediums.
Right now you can only have mounted on one flank,
I think you want more legion to be honest. |

So, better command, and more mixed commands?
Maybe a large legion/axulia command for the center, then two legion/cavalry commands for the flanks? |

Ah, I've got the fortified camp costed in the army builder. I was just assuming the cost was known when I posted the army list.
Alright, how about this:

Fortified Camp
CinC is no longer included, and I dropped the two impact cav. I thought having all cav that can evade might help in pulling away enemy mounted from my line.
I was thinking of treating the infantry in all three commands as basically one line, and the brilliant sub generals should have the pips to finagle the flanks while the center command just needs to hold the middle.
Edit: I'm guessing this is a good list then? |
