P34. The most threatening unit starts off by being 'The enemy in front of the unit whose ZOC covers the largest part of the front of the unit' (my highlighting)
I've always taken this to mean enemy units in front of a line extending the units front edge. However an opponent claim it means directly in front of the unit, ie within the tramlines of the units side edges.
See the diagram below. Unit X is in front of the blue unit by both definitions. Unit Y is not in the tramlines (between lines A) of the blue unit but is in front of the line extending blues front (line B). Unit Y has a ZOC covering more of blue front that unit X (please take my word for it!). Which is the most threatening unit?
If you think its unit X also consider the situation if unit X wasn't in that position, but instead behind the blue unit, facing it with a ZOC on its rear edge. What would be the most threatening unit now (see second bullet p34)?

From the FAQ
"The most threatening enemy unit is, in following order of priority:
The nearest one who’s ZoC covers part of the units front edge,
The nearest one who’s ZoC covers part of the flank or rear of the unit.
If a unit is in the ZoC of multiple enemy units, it only considers the most threatening enemy unit and ignores the ZoCs of the other units when moving. If several units are equally threatening, the choice is left to the player."
So unit Y is the most threatening |

Thanks. Was working from opponents rulebook which clearly didn't include all the updates. |

Since we are at it...
I have a question regarding that part: "...considers the most threatening unit and forgets about the rest for movement purposes…"
Do the other units get ignored during the whole turn/ movement distance or just until some other unit becomes the most threatening one???
Thank you! |

If as part of a move from or to the most threatening you get closer to one of the units that were pinning you with their ZOC they don't become the new most threatening you finish the initial move (i.e. charge, run away or line up) But that's just for the initial decision of what direction that the unit moves from or to. So its only talking about units it is in the ZOC of at the time that you are figuring out who is the most threatening. the normal rules for entering a new ZOC apply. |

Judging from the diagram it looks like X (not Y) is the most threatening. X meets the first priority (its ZoC covers part of the blue’s front edge); Y does not meet the first priority. |

Yeah it does Stephen, Y is the nearest one and its ZOC extends out to part of the unit's front edge. |

Gottit - confused by the A tram lines - Y has its own (invisible) tram lines. |
