May a unit which starts the turn in corner to corner contact with an enemy unit slide along the side of the enemy unit and end movement behind the unit and not in contact with any enemy?
I thought the rules where clear that non-charging units may not contact enemy units except in four exceptions (listed under the Charging rules). The above situation is not one of the exceptions.
For example, may unit AAA, in corner to corner contact with XXX and YYY, move through the gap and end its movement behind XXX and YYY, and not in contact with enemy.
AAA may charge through the gap. Can it also move through the gap?

I take it that  the unit already was in contact  So it is not initiating contact as it’s already in corner to corner contact. So it can #1 conform for free if the unit it is contact is not engaged on the front #2 move away #3 charge another target in range.  I see the move along it’s side and not charging another unit covered by #2 as it is moving away from the enemy it’s in contact with |

Agreed.
Check the FAQ, bottom of p8 that covers the case you are describing, Also, check on the timing of conformation in the FAQ p16.Â
Essentially, if a unit moved into contact with an enemy unit that is not fighting, then it must conform with that enemy.
However if the unit starts in contact with one or two units that are not fighting (because they have destroyed their opponents in the preceding melee), then the unit may do the followingÂ
- it may conform for free with the enemyÂ
- it may pay CP and move elsewhereÂ
- it may stay where it is |
