Had a game today where a charge & subsequent conformation onto the flank of a unit was an issue
The FAQ from 10/8/16 has a diagram on page 8 showing a similar example to what we had and saying it was impossible to conform onto the flank
but the same diagram is not in subsequent FAQs for 2017/18/19
So the question is does the 10/8/16 example/diagram still apply or not ?
and if not then
How is conformation onto a flank carried out with reference to similar situations to the one shown in the 10/8/16 FAQ |

Don't have that FAQ so hard to understand,
Is is possible that it was over ridden with the Amendment
Page 55
In the sub-section Conforming after a melee, after the final paragraph add the following text
“if a unit is in on the flank of an enemy but cannot conform with the flank in a legal manner it can always conform to fight against the front of the enemy.†|

Most of us have probably deleted the old FAQ so can't see the illustrations being referred to.
Can you please explain the situation you had on the table? |

I am not sure the diagram was deleted, though it may have moved.Â
The third example on p6 shows a restricted flank, where a unit intending to contact the flank of an enemy is prevented from doing so by the ZoC of a second enemy (so must change it’s movement direction to contact that unit).
Does that cover your question?
The basic point is that a unit that contacts the flank of an enemy unit must be able to conform correctly on the flank of the unit without being in contact with the front edge of a second enemy or being in the ZoC of another enemy. However, where the contact is on the front edge of the enemy, the unit is not required to conform exactly.Â
Note, the situation in the diagram at the top of p17 still applies, where units are permitted to contact the flank of a column because the second and subsequent units in the column do not inhibit this contact (so these are moved accordingly). |
