Point raised at club last night.
P78, penultimate para
"Once all units have been placed on the table, ...... If asked a player should inform his/her opponent if some units are not visible, but without specifying whether they are in ambush and/or flank marching."
So, if a player deploys elements of three commands on-table its clear there isn't a flank march. But if asked if all units are deployed a 'yes' means all ambushes must be fake.
I've never heard of this rule being applied. Have we understood it correctly, and is this revealed information about ambushes the intended consequence? |

I believe this is a rule intended to address the issue that there is nothing that can really be done to prevent an over-eager, over-competitive opponent counting up the total number of army points they can see on-table, and hence deducing whether there is an ambush (or indeed a flank march), and also roughly what might be included in it.
This - if it happens - adds nothing to the game as a simulation, and is simply a complete waste of everyone's time - so rather than attempt to legislate against it, Herve instead included this rule to help short-circuit it.
Personally I feel it is very unsporting to count up points, and I much prefer to approach the game in ignorance of whether ambush markers are real, whether a flank march exists, and how big it might be - so I'd always choose not to ask.
If someone ever asks me, I raise my eyebrows, peer at them over my glasses and ask if they are really sure they want to ask that question?
I they still do want to know, thats fine, and I'll tell them and move on ..

It's still your choice to occupy one of the ambushes with a single LI or not.
I find it extremely excruciating watching the clock go by while an opponent does the maths. _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

The clear intent of the rule is: don't tally the opponent's troops. Leave some level of mystery.
