River banks do not work like gulleys for shooting.
Troops in a river cannot shoot (unless it is a dried river) and cannot claim cover bonus. |

See also the modifier on page 58 for shooting from any difficult, irrespective of cover. The front edge point is only relevant for shooting from a plantation.

Sorry, I meant in a dried riverbanks. Gullys don't affect shooting but do limit LOS quite a bit. |

Interesting argument Mike. Page 70 is explicit about "cover" so I think that would apply to villages and woods, even though they are difficult. I would assume for consistency other difficult terrain would follow the same rule, but it's missing. |

On the other hand Pg70 mentions only cover, so excludes marshes, dunes and steep hills. Page 58 includes them as it is all difficult terrain.
The real effect of the two would be different. For cover it is the flight of the projectiles. Whereas difficult terrain is considerred to disrupt formations etc. impacting movement, shooting and melee. Considering consistency, even the tiniest part of the base is relevant for movement distance and melee factors. |
