In defenders turn he attaches a commander to a unit.
In subsequent turn this unit evades off table.
Does the commander have to go with the unit of table or not ?
(can it choose to not go with the unit as the previous turn has ended) ? |

Strictly speaking, a game turn is the attacker's game-sequence followed by the defender's game-sequence. Which makes an asymmetry that seems to be ignored.
Another example is an old discussion about who declares commander engagement first when two units with attached commanders square off. Strictly speaking this can only happen in the defender's game-sequence. |

Yes says he stays attached until end of the game turn (which is attacker/defender sequence) so is now over? and a new game turn commenced with attackers turn?
With two units in melee with commanders attached there is a sequence about who declares if commander is fighting in melee
(think it is attacker declares first, then defender- I can't find the reference in the rules at the moment though) |

I think common sense says they detach at the start of the player's next sequence, but it needs a ruling. Maybe in September.
Page 49 does say attached commanders are lost if they evade off the table. You are only forced to evade with LI or from enemy flank marches, so it would seem to be a dumb choice at some level.
There is no order for declaring engagement. Therefore, it's simultaneous. You can write it on a scrap of paper if you are formal about it. |

Rules say he stays attached until end of current 'game turn'
Moves to a unit in defenders turn.
Then Conceivably as defender in next game turn the unit commander is attached to could evade off table,
Commander doesn't have to stay attached and may stay on table, moving to closest friendly unit within 5UD
Yes a ruling based on how rules imply it works might be good.
Wonder what the French version says |
