|
A situation cropped up at campaign the other weekend that got me thinking (highly unusual, i know).
consider the diagram on page 47, orientation. the lc do a 90 deg turn and evade short. the cavalry is impetuous, and rolls up. it cannot deviate from its charge path. the lc will therefore end up either in flank, or perhaps in rear of the charging cav. and can fill their boots the next go. given that evading units can wheel to align with the charging unit, (diag p48), why shouldnt a charging unit be able to wheel to chase an evader? |

Yes it can but only at the beginning, before the straight change actually begins.
See page 43. 4-Charge movement.
So predict evading direction and wheel to cover expectations...if you can _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

Chargers ought to be able to follow evaders, this is something that local unit commanders would order and manage. Having the player specify it just slows down the game (and leads to needless disputes) as everyone has to do all the calculations before declaring a charge and moving. We should just move the evader and then give the charger the option of following the evader to keep the game moving in a less contentious manner. Something like:
1. Charger declares his charge direction that will contact the evade capable unit.
2. Evader chooses to evade or not and, if evading, does his evade move (either to his rear or away from the charge at his choice as per current rule).
3. Charger either (his choice) moves on his declared path or directly towards the evader, any subsequent targets reacting in course.
PS - I know this is not the current rule, but the current rule is one of them more contentious and time consuming parts of the game. It needs to be made simpler and less subject to contention. Just move the evader and if the charger can hit them he catches them. Local unit commanders would handle this, having the players fiddling with pre planning the geometry of it is a waste of time and effort. |

Hardly contentious.
So, you want the charger to declare it's charging in whatever direction the evader wants to go? To be decided later.
What if that turns out to be somewhere you don't want to go?
How is that worked out?
What direction is the minimum charge to be? To be decided later?
I don't wish to go on, it's quick enough to play the rules than to playabout with elastic manoeuvring. Been there done that in WRG 5th edition 40 odd years ago, no wish to go there again. _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |
